Permanent birth control linked to dangerous side effects

If you live in Louisiana and are using or have used Essure to prevent pregnancy, know that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is limiting sales and distribution of the permanent birth control device due to thousands of complaints about side effects. At Lundy, Lundy, Soileau & South, we understand how devastating it can be when something supposed to help you causes harm, and we have helped many people who were injured or otherwise impacted because of dangerous products seek appropriate recourse.

Per CNN, the FDA received almost 12,000 "adverse event" reports concerning Essure in 2017 alone, with "adverse event" referring to an undesirable experience or outcome relating to the product. Essure patients logged another 5,000 complaints about the product between 2002 and 2015, which led the agency to add a black box warning to the product, which is the strongest warning sign about potential side effects the agency can offer.

Just how is the permanent birth control device endangering and harming patients? Some of the complaints involved problems removing the device, with many patients requiring hysterectomies following removal. Long-term pain, the migration of the device to other, unintended parts of the body and perforation of the uterus or fallopian tubes were also common complaints from Essure users.

Some users also reported unintended pregnancies despite using the product, while others reported experiencing miscarriages or stillbirths after using this form of birth control. Additionally, per one report, about 95 percent of product users were still unaware about potential side effects, despite the FDA's black box warning issuance. More about dangerous and defective products and class-action litigation is available on our web page.
