CA health officials release warning about cellphone radiation

Smartphone use is prevalent in the U.S. and all across the world. It is a part of daily life, even for kids. You may assume that smartphones are generally safe, but according to the California Department of Public Health, that may not be the case. The CDPH has released tips to help people reduce their exposure to cellphone radiation

Mobile phones release energy in radio frequencies when they receive and send signals via cellphone towers. These smartphone frequencies may result in health complications. So what are the risks of cellphone usage and what are the CDPH safety guidelines? Find out below.

Consequences of cellphone radiation

Consistent use and being within a close proximity of cellphones may result in a variety of cancers and tumors, including:

  • Glioma (a malignant brain cancer)
  • Acoustic neuroma (a tumor found in the nerve that connects the ear to the brain)
  • Ependymoma (a tumor found in the central nervous system)

Any of these issues can result in costly medical bills, lost wages and even death.

Health guidelines

It is because of these risks that the CDPH has released tips for reducing exposure to cellphone radiation. The guidelines are:

  • Not using your cellphone when it has a weak signal
  • Keeping your smartphone away from your body when you are not using it
  • Reducing the time you spend watching videos, streaming audio or uploading or downloading large files with your phone
  • Removing headphones or earbuds when you are not on a phone call
  • Keeping your phone away from your bed when sleeping

By taking these steps, you can reduce your risk of contracting cancers or tumors from cellphone radiation.

It can be scary to think that a device you use on a daily basis can be harmful to your health. If you believe your phone has caused you harm, consider your legal options for compensation.
